It is definitely NOT suitable for real world flight in the B777 nor is it intended to be. It is intended solely for the purposes of flight simulation and entertainment. This document is the result of that process. While ultimately successful, the process was anything but enjoyable and probably would not have been successful without Robert McDonald's posting on “Quick tips programming the Ramzzess B777 FMC” which got me over the hump with setting up the FMS. Consequently, I spent a rather frustrating period of several weeks off and on reading the Boeing manuals, cruising user forums and searching the Internet until little by little I was able to compile a list of notes, tips, and other information that enabled me to finally complete an automatic flight. Written instructions and illustrations work better for me with technical topics. The video tutorials were good but for me it's difficult to learn from a video for most topics. The Boeing documentation is certainly thorough but you need some background and familiarity with the aircraft and the automatic flight systems in order to understand it. Unfortunately, I had a different experience with the 777. It made a huge difference and I was able to fly the plane right from the beginning after reading that tutorial. This plane came with a short tutorial in the form of a walk through of a flight from takeoff to landing by a Challenger 300 pilot and gave simple instructions of flight characteristics, takeoff speeds and climbing procedures, approach procedures and flap schedules. In particular, I enjoyed very much the Bombardier Challenger 300. I had flown a number of other X-Plane 10 aircraft and was familiar with IFR flight and programming the stock FMC that comes with a lot of planes.
